The “Father Time Limited Edition” is a collaborative project between Oris and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to produce a limited-edition bronze version of the Big Crown Pointer Date watch. This initiative underscores Oris’s commitment to “Change for the Better.” The watch is inspired by the iconic Father Time weathervane at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, a significant symbol in world cricket and sports.
Oris, as the first Official Timekeeper of Lord’s and a partner of MCC, aligns with the club’s vision of community benefit and shared commitment to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The collaboration includes various community-oriented activities, such as educational, social, and sports events, and initiatives like the “Oris Change for the Better Day” for environmental clean-up.
The Father Time weathervane, dating back to the 1920s, was a gift from Sir Herbert Baker to the MCC. It depicts a cast iron figure of Father Time, about a meter and a half tall, stooping over cricket stumps, symbolizing the end of the day’s play in cricket, as per Law 12.3 of the Laws of Cricket held by MCC.
The limited-edition watch, limited to 1,926 pieces to commemorate the year the weathervane was gifted, features a 40 mm bronze case, fluted bezel, and oversized crown, reminiscent of its 1938 pilot’s watch heritage. It offers both a bronze bracelet and a sustainably sourced light brown deer leather strap from Cervo Volante. The stainless steel case back is engraved with the Father Time weathervane and the edition number. Internally, it houses the Oris Calibre 754, a Swiss automatic movement with a pointer date function.
