The Legacy Machine 101, first launched in 2014, is one of MB&F’s most compact yet visually dramatic creations. With its 40mm case, it showcases the essentials of watchmaking: time display, power reserve, and a spectacular 14mm “flying” balance wheel suspended above the movement. It was the first calibre developed entirely in-house, with design and finishing guidance from master watchmaker Kari Voutilainen, blending traditional 19th-century techniques with MB&F’s futuristic approach. Over the years, the LM101 has appeared in numerous metals and finishes, becoming a collector favourite.
In 2020, MB&F introduced the EVO line, adapting Legacy Machines for more active lifestyles. EVO models are equipped with 80m water resistance, screw-down crowns, integrated rubber straps, and a patented FlexRing shock absorber. They use modern materials like titanium and zirconium and feature ergonomic, bezel-free cases for a clear view of the dials. Darkened movement finishes and Super-LumiNova details give them a sportier, more contemporary style while retaining MB&F’s trademark artistry.
To mark its 20th anniversary in 2025, MB&F has introduced the LM101 EVO in titanium, with dial plates in salmon or peacock green created by CVD for vivid, shifting tones. Subdials are now ringed, and the hours and minutes are displayed with redesigned white gold hands. The power reserve has been upgraded from 45 to 60 hours. Signature features include twin arches for the balance wheel, a redesigned escapement, and a Straumann® double hairspring. Finished with white or grey rubber straps, only a few dozen pieces will be produced annually.
